THE STORY OF STORY BEAT SOUND LABS

ABOUT STORY BEAT SOUND LABS
Hey everyone. Dylan here.
I started Story Beat Sound Labs as a way to present my music to the people that I want to hear it: story tellers. Whether it's a movie, TV show, video game, podcast, documentary; I want to help tell your story. Music is a crucial element to any audio/visual narrative project and what I hope you'll find here is a variety of tracks that you can use in your stories.
When you make a purchase on Story Beat Sound Labs, you're buying a high quality audio file and a clean, transparent, life-time license for uses in almost any creative endeavor you could embark on. The license is registered to you, the creative, not the project. Meaning if you have multiple parts or episodes, you can use the track you bought for episode 1 in episode 100. In addition to the easy license, each track on Story Beat Sound Labs is registered with my Performing Rights Organization (PRO) ASCAP, so they're ready to go in projects of all sizes.

I, Dylan, and subsequently Story Beat Sound Labs, staunchly oppose the use of AI in any creative space, but especially music. As such, I can say with 100% certainly that none of the music you hear on this website is made, fully or in part, with AI. I promise everything that hits your ears has come from my noggin'.
ABOUT THE COMPOSER
I'm born and raised in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. My life in music began in 5th grade and I've been a student of the art and craft ever since. Like most who aspire to do this sort of thing professionally, music was an outlet for me during a rocky childhood. I poured everything into it and it gave me a way to say things I hadn't learned the words for yet. My first love is the drums. A thunderstorm of an instrument. From drumming, I began producing electronic dance music, which led me to composing for my high school band. I fell in love with the orchestra my senior year of high school and decided to pursue further education at the now defunct McNally Smith College of Music.
Post college, my musical life has been quiet, but consistent. I've been fortunate enough to land placements in a swath of reality TV shows all over the world, with credits like Aussie Gold Hunters and Top Chef Belgium. I've put out a handful of EPs, but I've continued to develop my craft for narrative music. Music that makes you feel somethin'. I've begun to find my voice in music; blending my loves of film music, EDM, and heavy metal into a cool sound. However, I don't like to limit myself. Part of being a forever student is exploring and trying new things. With Story Beat Sound Labs, I hope to share with you the things I think sound cool to me. New things I've learned, new ideas I've had, new stories to tell.

F.A.Q.
QUESTION: How do the licenses work?
ANSWER: When you make a purchase at Story Beat Sound Labs, you'll receive a .zip file. Within is a high quality audio file, a copy of the license agreement, and any artwork associated with the track. When you open the license, there's a lot going on, but it boils down to essentially this: The track is licensed to you, the creative. As long as the license remains valid, meaning you don't violate the terms of the agreement, you can use that track in any project - for life. Don't use my music to promote hate and don't remix, sample, or re-release my music as your own and you'll never have to worry about breaking the agreement.
QUESTION: Why are the songs priced the way they are?
ANSWER: The standard price at Story Beat Sound Labs is $10 for a 48KHz .WAV file and the standard license. The breakdown equates to $3 for the audio file and $7 for the license, with the caveat being a discounted audio file for lower quality files. There are a number of tracks at launch priced at $7; which due to their age and 44.1KHz quality, the audio file is essentially free on these specific tracks. Note, song length and instrumentation have no impact on price.
QUESTION: Why not a subscription model?
ANSWER: I'm sick of subscriptions and I'm sure you are too.
QUESTION: Do you use AI in your music?
ANSWER: Absolutely not. Nothing in my music is made with AI in anyway. I learned how to use Blender to animate the preview videos. I didn't even use the AI tools when this designing this website! I'm sure there are cool uses for it in other applications, but I firmly believe AI is currently capable of only harm to the industry and perhaps music itself.
